2011 Windermere Community Service Day

2010 Windermere Community Service Day

Ronald McDonald House -Garden of Hope
Created in 2010

Every year since 1984, Windermere associates have skipped work for a day to complete neighborhood improvement projects.

Not only is Community Service Day a great opportunity to give back to the communities where we live and work, it also gives us a chance to work together. We clean, landscape and repair parks, playgrounds, schools, shelters and community buildings. Each office selects a project that best serves its community needs.

After all, real estate is rooted in our communities. And an investment in our neighborhoods gives us all a better place to call home.

Past projects have included cleaning, landscaping, painting and light carpentry to benefit senior citizens centers, facilities for physically and mentally challenged children and adults, public schools, low income housing and emergency shelters, among others.

Every transaction makes a difference
Windermere's commitment to serving our communities goes beyond providing our buyers and sellers the best in real estate services. Every time a Windermere sales associate sells a home, a portion of the commission goes to the Windermere Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1989. Contributions from WindermereWindermere Real Estate & The Windermere Foundation agents combined with contributions from Windermere employees and the public have allowed the Windermere Foundation to distribute over two million dollars annually in recent years to non-profit agencies dedicated to helping homeless and low-income families.

Housing is our business
Helping homeless and low-income families is a natural extension of our business. Non-profit agencies receiving Windermere Foundation dollars have furnished emergency and transitional housing, have subsidized costs for services such as health care, employment counseling, placement and training, day care, scholarships and much more.

Building a future for homeless and low-income children
A significant portion of Windermere Foundation dollars go toward programs that help children. Establishing and funding literacy programs, underwriting the costs of summer camp, and providing basic necessities such as new school shoes, socks, and underwear are among the many projects that the Windermere Foundation supports. We believe that building a child's self-esteem is an investment in our future.

Our Place Ministries has been providing year around emergency assistance to one of the poorest neighborhoods in the ENTIRE state of Washington, since 1987.  Our Place has a food and clothing bank to assist the disadvantaged in the West Central community of Spokane.

Thanksgiving 2008 & 2009, our agents were able to give over $300 to help with Thanksgiving baskets. These baskets included everything needed to feed a family of six for Thanksgiving. The baskets included some other household items as well.

Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane provides temporary lodging, comfort and support for families of children accessing medical services, and supports related efforts to improve children's health.

Ronald McDonald House of Spokane is located just south of Interstate 90 near major medical centers. The House offers a central family kitchen, 21 private family bedrooms, comfortable living areas and plenty of room for children to play. The cooking and some cleaning are shared by the visiting families in a family atmosphere. It is a true "home-away-from-home."

The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974. Since then, Ronald McDonald Houses have been established in more than 220 communities around the world.

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery was founded in 1987 in memory of Vanessa Behan, who died from child abuse injuries at the age of two. The cause of death was a ruptured bowel caused by a blow to her abdomen. An autopsy revealed that during her short life, Vanessa had suffered many previous injuries, including a fractured arm, head trauma from having her hair pulled and twisted, a fractured skull and cigarette burns.

The tragedy of Vanessa's death outraged and saddened the Spokane community. A handful of people initiated a grassroots effort to create a safe place where parents could bring their children any time they are having difficulty providing them with safe and nurturing care.

Since then, the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery has served as a safe haven for more than 50,000 children.

The Crisis Nursery helps parents who are having difficulty providing safe shelter and care for their children. They may be dealing with issues as complex as substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. Or, they may just be exhausted and worn-out from the demands of parenting.
